Thus, when the neo-conservatives had more confidence in George W. Bush \u00e2\u20ac\u201d particularly on the eve of the Iraq invasion and immediately after \u00e2\u20ac\u201d they had no hesitation in comparing him to their hero, particularly because they knew that that\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s how Bush himself <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ipsnews.net\/news.asp?idnews=36955\">has conceived<\/a> his own historical role vis-a-vis \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Islamo-fascism\u00e2\u20ac\u009d in it many forms and that flattery can be very helpful in influencing the president.<\/p>\n<p>So, it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s no surprise that, in their rush to ingratiate themselves with John McCain \u00e2\u20ac\u201d with whom, as I\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ve noted in a recent post, they already have strong ties anyway \u00e2\u20ac\u201d they are now comparing him to the Great Man. In an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/Content\/Public\/Articles\/000\/000\/014\/739qqkcd.asp\">article<\/a> entitled \u00e2\u20ac\u0153The Model for McCain?\u00e2\u20ac\u009d that appeared on the Weekly Standard\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s website last week, Michael Makovsky, a Churchill biographer who previously worked in Douglas Feith\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s intelligence manipulation office and is now \u00e2\u20ac\u201d bizarrely enough \u00e2\u20ac\u201d the foreign policy director of the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Bipartisan Policy Center\u00e2\u20ac\u009d \u00e2\u20ac\u201d points out the many fascinating similarities between Churchill and McCain, concluding that, while \u00e2\u20ac\u0153McCain certainly has not reached Churchill\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s heights, \u00e2\u20ac\u00a6he can legitimately claim to be the most Churchillian among the Republicans of his day.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d The courtship is well underway.<\/p>\n<p>Michael is the younger brother of David Makovsky, the director of the Washington Institute for Near Policy (WINEP).
