{"id":4203,"date":"2008-02-23T12:36:42","date_gmt":"2008-02-23T19:36:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/23\/mccains-other-war-frauds\/"},"modified":"2008-02-23T12:36:42","modified_gmt":"2008-02-23T19:36:42","slug":"mccains-other-war-frauds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2008\/02\/23\/mccains-other-war-frauds\/","title":{"rendered":"McCain&#8217;s Other War Frauds"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Amongst all the media teeth-gnashing over the question of whether McCain did special favors for his blondie lobbyist,\u00c2\u00a0 his wife\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s sweetheart deal for massive narcotics theft in the 1990s has been forgotten.<\/p>\n<p>If a poor black woman from Anacostia had committed the crimes that Cindy McCain committed, the black woman might have been sent to prison for the duration of her life.<\/p>\n<p>John McCain has never shown any courage on the drug war.\u00c2\u00a0 As long as people like his wife don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t need to fear jail time for crimes, there is no reason to reform the law to\u00c2\u00a0cease the persecution of other Americans. \u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s an excerpt on the case from an article I did for <strong>Playboy<\/strong> in 1997. Percocet and Vicodin are schedule 2 drugs, in the same legal category as opium. Each pill theft carries a penalty of one year in prison and a monetary fine. McCain stole the pills over several years. She became addicted to the drugs after undergoing back surgery.\u00c2\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0 But rather than face prosecution, McCain was allowed to enter a pretrial diversion program and escaped with no blemish on her record.
