The city and state had ordered Mess Frankfurt to cancel the show, calling Waters one of the &quot;world&#39;s most influential antisemites.&quot; <\/p>\n<p> &quot;Politicians don&#39;t have the right to intimidate artists and their fans by banning performances,&quot; Waters said before the case. &quot;I am fighting for all of our human rights, including the right to free speech.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">The court\u2019s reversal is the latest in a series of failures by German authorities \u2013 egged on by Israel lobby groups \u2013 in their attempt to restrict or criminalize activism in support of Palestinian rights <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/kEi0Jp8PCr\">https:\/\/t.co\/kEi0Jp8PCr<\/a><\/p>\n<p> &mdash; Electronic Intifada (@intifada) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intifada\/status\/1650614097371619331?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 24, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>&quot;I want to state for the record and once and for all that I am not and never have been antisemitic and nothing that anyone can say or publish will alter that,&quot; Waters <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/rogerwaters\/status\/1636464865752522769\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> last month. &quot;My well-publicized views relate entirely to the policies and actions of the Israeli government and not with the peoples of Israel.&quot; <\/p>\n<p> While Josef Schuster, president of the Central Council of Jews in Germany, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/2023\/apr\/25\/roger-waters-pink-floyd-wins-legal-battle-to-gig-in-frankfurt-amid-antisemitism-row\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> he was &quot;baffled&quot; by the court&#39;s ruling, Waters&#39; supporters hailed what human rights defender Steven Donziger <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SDonziger\/status\/1650915933320548352\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> &quot;a win for artistic freedom.&quot;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A measure of justice <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/freepalestine?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#freepalestine<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/meKusnJqcA\">https:\/\/t.co\/meKusnJqcA<\/a><\/p>\n<p> &mdash; Ramzy Baroud (@RamzyBaroud) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RamzyBaroud\/status\/1650899522757820419?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 25, 2023<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p>Palestinian rights activist Sarah Wilkinson <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/swilkinsonbc\/status\/1650757229316898818\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> the decision represents &quot;an epic fail for the Israel lobby.&quot; <\/p>\n<p> In suing to stop the Frankfurt concert, state and city officials cited the artist&#39;s support for the nonviolent Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement for Palestinian human rights &#8211; many of whose prominent members are Jewish &#8211; as well as his display of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.algemeiner.com\/2013\/07\/24\/massive-pig-balloon-at-roger-waters-concert-features-star-of-david-video\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" target=\"_blank\">a pig-shaped balloon<\/a> marked with a Star of David during his shows and his comparisons of Israel with apartheid-era South Africa as justification for canceling the performance. <\/p>\n<p> Senior South African officials have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/israel-south-africa\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned<\/a> Israeli apartheid, which is being acknowledged by a growing number of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2022\/02\/01\/new-amnesty-report-outlines-true-extent-israeli-apartheid-regime\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">human rights groups<\/a> around the world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/2021\/01\/12\/prominent-rights-group-says-israeli-rule-must-finally-be-seen-what-it-apartheid\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\">including in Israel<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p> While the court found that it may be in &quot;especially poor taste&quot; to let Waters perform at the Frankfurt Festhalle &#8211; where 3,000 Jews were imprisoned before being shipped off to concentration camps during the Holocaust &#8211; the tribunal said the concert would &quot;not be injurious to the human dignity of those people.&quot;<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Victory!<br \/> Yet another German court has ruled in favour of supporters of the BDS movement. <\/p>\n<p> Citing artistic freedom, the Frankfurt Administrative Court reversed the decision of the city of Frankfurt &amp; the state of Hesse to cancel Roger Waters\u2019 gig in May <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/qrmhHJBP8n\">https:\/\/t.co\/qrmhHJBP8n<\/a><\/p>\n<p> &mdash; Artists for Palestine UK ??
