{"id":4456,"date":"2008-07-23T08:04:45","date_gmt":"2008-07-23T15:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=4456"},"modified":"2008-08-07T22:40:11","modified_gmt":"2008-08-08T05:40:11","slug":"cheney-must-be-very-angry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2008\/07\/23\/cheney-must-be-very-angry\/","title":{"rendered":"Cheney Must Be Very Angry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If, as I do, you believe that the writings of the <em>Weekly Standard<\/em>\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s Stephen Hayes reflect the views of Dick Cheney, particularly on matters having to do with the \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Axis of Evil,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d then you would have to conclude from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/Content\/Public\/Articles\/000\/000\/015\/337buwmb.asp\">the lead editorial<\/a> in this week\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s edition that the vice president is really, truly angry about the drift of U.S. policy toward the Axis\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 two surviving charter members, especially Iran. \u00e2\u20ac\u0153Stunningly Shameful\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is the name of the piece written by Hayes on behalf of the editors, which also, of course, includes Bill Kristol.<\/p>\n<p>The title is taken from a quote attributed to \u00e2\u20ac\u0153former adviser to Condoleezza Rice,\u00e2\u20ac\u009d the principal villain of the piece about whom, you\u00e2\u20ac\u2122ll remember, Hayes did a real hatchet job in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.weeklystandard.com\/Content\/Public\/Articles\/000\/000\/015\/145jmmdg.asp\">a lengthy feature article<\/a> in the magazine\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s June 2 edition. One can speculate who that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153former adviser\u00e2\u20ac\u009d is \u00e2\u20ac\u201d it could be someone from her National Security Council days like Elliott Abrams or J.D. Crouch or from the State Department, such as Robert Joseph or, of course, John Bolton whose complaints about the \u00e2\u20ac\u009dintellectual collapse\u00e2\u20ac\u009d of the administration, if not Bush himself, has become a staple of <em>New York Times<\/em> coverage since Rice sent William Burns to the Geneva talks last weekend. In any event, I can\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t imagine Hayes writing about anything of special interest to the subject of his fawning biography without the latter\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s presumed or even actual approval.
