The US organization Veterans For Peace<\/a> has issued a statement<\/a> in support of Israeli soldiers who are refusing to fight in Gaza.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou are doing the right thing,\u201d<\/strong> the veterans group writes, while applauding the Israeli military reservists who are calling for a ceasefire<\/a> and the release of hostages, and who say they will not participate<\/a> in genocide. \u201cYour courageous stance may be answered by official threats and even imprisonment, but you will never regret refusing to kill innocent Palestinian men, women and children.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

\u201cI am deeply moved by the growing number of Israeli young people who are refusing<\/em><\/strong> to be inducted into the IDF. Their decision to live out their values is deeply inspiring to me as a Jew,\u201d<\/em> said James M. Branum, an attorney who works with US service members\u00a0struggling with issues of conscience.\u00a0 \u201cI am also quite concerned about <\/em>reports of mental trauma and suicide<\/em><\/a> among Israeli soldiers,\u201d <\/em>said Branum, \u201csomething with which we in the US are all too familiar.\u201d<\/p>\n

The ongoing US-backed Israeli genocide in Gaza is a \u201cstain on human history, and it must be ended,\u201d<\/em> said Veterans For Peace, with chapters in over 100 US cities, and several international chapters.<\/p>\n

When US bombs stop falling on Palestinian children, the genocide will end<\/strong><\/p>\n

Veterans For Peace has consistently called for an end to the genocide in Gaza, for a permanent ceasefire, and most importantly, for an end to US arms shipments to Israel. \u00a0\u201cWhen US bombs stop falling on Palestinian children, the genocide will have ended,\u201d states the group.<\/p>\n

Veterans For Peace has meticulously documented the US laws that the Biden Administration is breaking when it sends weapons to Israel while it is bombing and starving innocent civilians. As the slaughter in Gaza has continued and escalated, the veterans have sent Open Letters to the State Department<\/a>, to President Biden<\/a>, to Vice President Harris<\/a> and to the Justice Department.<\/a><\/p>\n

Call for US GI\u2019s to Resist Illegal Wars and War Crimes<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 39-year-old veterans\u2019 organization also called on US GI\u2019s to carefully consider their participation in the widening war in the Middle East.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs veterans who have participated in too many illegal and immoral wars, <\/em><\/strong>we also want to address our young sisters and brothers, daughters and sons in the U.S. military.<\/em> \u00a0The U.S. has 40,000 troops deployed on ships and at bases throughout the Middle East. President Biden recently sent 100 U.S. troop to be stationed in Israel just as Israel is preparing to attack Iran and is bracing for Iran\u2019s promised response. <\/em>\u00a0<\/em>The U.S. is also backing Israel\u2019s invasion of Lebanon.\u00a0 The U.S. military itself has recently dropped bombs in Yemen, Syria and Iraq. Now there is active discussion about waging war on Iran!<\/em>\u00a0 <\/em>Are U.S. troops being purposely deployed where they will be targets and casualties?<\/em>\u00a0 Is this the way that the Biden Administration will back us into a war with Iran?\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2018It is right to resist unjust wars and illegal orders,\u2019<\/em><\/strong> stated the group. Veterans For Peace has joined with several other organizations to promote the Appeal for Redress<\/a> (v.2), an opportunity for active-duty GI\u2019s to safely present their concerns to their Congressional representatives.\u00a0 The group refer GI\u2019s who are thinking about becoming Conscientious Objectors to the Center on Conscience and War<\/a>. They can also refer people to a GI Rights attorney.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it has often been customary in our society to demonize war resisters <\/em><\/strong>during conflicts, history ultimately reveals the righteousness of their cause,\u201d <\/em>said VFP Vice President Joshua Shurley. \u201cThose who refuse to partake in the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people will be especially vindicated for their courageous stand.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
