Notably, the <em>Times<\/em> does not mention Gabbard\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.youtube.com_watch-3Fv-3DcbNrjzg61d4&amp;d=DwMF-g&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0HvzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&amp;m=5EWEg8Arf2pbtj1wQp26y6XoE9d6seTv02CzTvGyNyHkWijoV4NTd2dFTJxwD4T1&amp;s=u8ERnHWPswPZZe7_4TeoqaBiCAQu4MKTz9HEgviDEg0&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">support for Israel\u2019s genocide<\/a> in Gaza. Rather, the <em>Times <\/em>is apoplectic that Gabbard opposes the US proxy war in Ukraine and wants better relations with Russia. The <em>Times <\/em>recycles Hillary Clinton\u2019s slander of Gabbard as a \u201cRussian asset.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As evidence, the <em>Times <\/em>quotes from Gabbard tweet in February 2022, as the war in Ukraine was beginning:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis war and suffering could have easily been avoided if Biden Admin\/NATO had simply acknowledged Russia\u2019s legitimate security concerns regarding Ukraine\u2019s becoming a member of NATO, which would mean US\/NATO forces right on Russia\u2019s border.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Well, <em>NYT <\/em>Editors, is that not the case? It is time that you caught up with the rest of the world, and your fellow Americans too. According to a <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__responsiblestatecraft.org_ukraine-2Dpeace-2Dtalks-2Dpoll_&amp;d=DwMF-g&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0HvzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&amp;m=5EWEg8Arf2pbtj1wQp26y6XoE9d6seTv02CzTvGyNyHkWijoV4NTd2dFTJxwD4T1&amp;s=i5OMLNf2nJhaIR-NIKuckcL5sBpXTZqQ81OCkyGwIdQ&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recent Harris poll<\/a>, 70% of people in the U.S. want talks to end the war in Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times <\/em>is not listening, however, nor is the Biden administration. President Biden\u2019s unilateral decision this week to green-light attacking Russia with U.S. long range missiles <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__worldbeyondwar.org_u-2Ds-2Dpeace-2Dgroups-2Ddenounce-2Dpresident-2Dbidens-2Ddecision-2Dto-2Dapprove-2Dlong-2Drange-2Dmissile-2Dstrikes_&amp;d=DwMF-g&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0HvzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&amp;m=5EWEg8Arf2pbtj1wQp26y6XoE9d6seTv02CzTvGyNyHkWijoV4NTd2dFTJxwD4T1&amp;s=jyLVFGZbyUbSUrcQIoaThOWbzxqvLESBqSW1c3bbBFY&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has been condemned<\/a> by U.S. peace groups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn approving these strikes, the Biden White House chose to make the US a direct party to the Ukraine-Russia war, crossing a previous red line and causing Russia to lower the threshold on the use of nuclear weapons\u2026. A lame duck president, Biden opts for last minute escalation to make it even more difficult for the incoming administration to broker a peaceful settlement,\u201d wrote Code Pink, World Beyond War, Veterans For Peace, the Peace In Ukraine Coaltion and the End Wars Working Group of Progressive Democrats of America.<\/p>\n<p>The Biden Administration has subsequently announced it is sending <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.commondreams.org_news_biden-2Dlandmines-2Dukraine&amp;d=DwMF-g&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0HvzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&amp;m=5EWEg8Arf2pbtj1wQp26y6XoE9d6seTv02CzTvGyNyHkWijoV4NTd2dFTJxwD4T1&amp;s=yrsa9Z2O26Fv5ocmEzMWg7FWU7Jw1AljGgb_y_gTGm4&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">internationally banned landmines<\/a> to further litter the Ukrainian landscape for decades to come.<\/p>\n<p>The one thing the U.S. peace movement may welcome from the incoming Trump administration \u2013 negotiations to end the war in Ukraine \u2013 is under furious attack, not only by the <em>New York Times <\/em>but by much of the political establishment. Does this mean that the peace movement, along with the majority of the American people, are now \u201cRussian assets?\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"mm-drop-caps--dc1\">Those who are calling for peace can expect even more slander and repression. Even now the Congress is preparing to pass a bill, <a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.commondreams.org_opinion_dems-2Dtrump-2Dcrush-2Dnonprofits&amp;d=DwMF-g&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0HvzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&amp;m=5EWEg8Arf2pbtj1wQp26y6XoE9d6seTv02CzTvGyNyHkWijoV4NTd2dFTJxwD4T1&amp;s=F2vkXl5AsbB4BeoE4wkrztAD3nhEzHYAh7DYkYsLKL8&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">H.R. 9495<\/a><u><a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.proofpoint.com\/v2\/url?u=https-3A__www.commondreams.org_opinion_dems-2Dtrump-2Dcrush-2Dnonprofits&amp;d=DwMF-g&amp;c=euGZstcaTDllvimEN8b7jXrwqOf-v5A_CdpgnVfiiMM&amp;r=Quy6Wex9qZX4bNOre8UheujKTdpIribYUJL2tXdXXrZm2A0HvzbaWKLhiTCmFgWk&amp;m=5EWEg8Arf2pbtj1wQp26y6XoE9d6seTv02CzTvGyNyHkWijoV4NTd2dFTJxwD4T1&amp;s=F2vkXl5AsbB4BeoE4wkrztAD3nhEzHYAh7DYkYsLKL8&amp;e=\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">,<\/a><\/u> which will strip nonprofit status from (\u201cterrorist supporting\u201d) organizations that criticize Israel or U.S. foreign policy. Peace activists, human rights advocates and defenders of the US Constitution: beware and be ready, but do not be deterred.
