{"id":53234,"date":"2025-05-25T08:47:29","date_gmt":"2025-05-25T16:47:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=53234"},"modified":"2025-05-25T08:49:38","modified_gmt":"2025-05-25T16:49:38","slug":"palestine-the-moral-issue-of-our-time","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2025\/05\/25\/palestine-the-moral-issue-of-our-time\/","title":{"rendered":"Palestine, the Moral Issue of Our Time"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i>Reprinted from <a href=\"https:\/\/bracingviews.substack.com\/\">Bracing Views<\/a> with the author\u2019s permission.<\/i><\/p>\n<p>So much of what we\u2019ve been told about Israel and Zionism has been a lie, as this video reveals.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/fnl49IWqIcY?si=d1o9zWaolQL101Cz\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>My mother-in-law had a saying: \u201cHave a heart if you\u2019ve got a heart.\u201d So many \u201cleaders\u201d in the U.S. and Israel, including Joe Biden and Donald Trump and of course Bibi Netanyahu, haven\u2019t got hearts, at least when it comes to Palestinians and Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.caitlinjohnst.one\/p\/its-a-complete-lie-to-say-gaza-can\" rel=\"\">Caitlin Johnstone<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>Israel <a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/redirect\/47fd684b-b700-496f-b2a9-8582f69aba1a?j=eyJ1IjoiMXBkZXAifQ.nWy2zKTNDCQ1wFuHL3JXMpTzEKfyzgL_up5pLmagzIo\" rel=\"\">bombed the home<\/a> of two married doctors in Gaza on Friday, killing nine of their children and critically injuring their sole surviving son. The father of the children was also severely injured in the attack, while their mother, while still working at the nearby hospital, received the charred bodies of her children. They were too badly burned to be recognized.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This one incident, just by itself, is vastly more newsworthy and deserving of attention than two Israeli embassy staff members being <a href=\"https:\/\/substack.com\/redirect\/06f7b999-5817-4ab3-b76c-759b7604c526?j=eyJ1IjoiMXBkZXAifQ.nWy2zKTNDCQ1wFuHL3JXMpTzEKfyzgL_up5pLmagzIo\" rel=\"\">killed in Washington<\/a>. But news coverage hasn\u2019t reflected this, because Palestinians aren\u2019t regarded as human beings in the mainstream western press.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>And another worthy snippet from Caitlin Johnstone:<\/p>\n<p><em>The <\/em>Guardian <em>has published an opinion piece by Rhiannon Lucy Cosslett titled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/archive.is\/SOa4w\" rel=\"\">As Gaza\u2019s children are bombed and starved, we watch\u200a\u2014\u200apowerless. What is it doing to us as a society?<\/a>\u201d, which is noteworthy because it somehow never mentions the word \u201cIsrael\u201d or \u201cIsraeli\u201d one single time throughout the entire article. It doesn\u2019t even mention Netanyahu.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This is a particularly glaring example of the way the western press have been discussing the Gaza holocaust as some kind of unfortunate tragedy that is just passively happening to the Palestinian people, as though it\u2019s a natural disaster or something. It\u2019s like bombs and siege warfare are just the weather over there. Like \u201cOh it\u2019s a bit bomby and faminy in Gaza today, and it makes me feel sad!\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>This genocide is exposing the mass media like nothing else in my lifetime.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Finally, consider <a href=\"https:\/\/went2thebridge.substack.com\/p\/is-memorial-day-to-celebrate-militarism\" rel=\"\">this article<\/a> by Lisa Savage as she ponders the misuse of Memorial Day as a celebration of militarism in the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s an excerpt:<\/p>\n<p><em>The U.S. as a whole seems to be suffering from moral injury as we <a href=\"https:\/\/watson.brown.edu\/research\/2023\/how-death-outlives-war-reverberating-impact-post-911-wars-human-health?link_id=4&amp;can_id=dc6d23f9d9c303ca86c1dab94fec2880&amp;source=email-test-11951&amp;email_referrer=email_1927240&amp;email_subject=huge-story-of-this-century-ignored\" rel=\"\">destroy country after country<\/a> in our lust for imperial spoils. Watching the U.S.-Israel genocide in Gaza starving thousands to death while bombing them drives me to despair. There are now <a href=\"https:\/\/thecradle.co\/articles\/israels-deadly-aid-plan-for-gaza-delayed-due-to-logistical-issues\" rel=\"\">plans for U.S. soldiers<\/a> to distribute food aid because Israel won\u2019t allow UNRWA to do it as they have for decades. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dropsitenews.com\/p\/netanyahu-trump-gaza-aid-genocide-smotrich-ceasefire-hamas?utm_source=substack&amp;utm_medium=email\" rel=\"\">Food has been weaponized<\/a> and politicized, and the largest shipments being allowed in at the moment don\u2019t even contain calories or medical supplies. They contain <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TheCradleMedia\/status\/1924554869358088277\" rel=\"\">shrouds<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"embed-twitter\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">I will hold my kids tonight, and shake with anger. Dr. Alaa Elnajjar left her home this morning in Gaza to save other kids lives. 9 of her 10 kids arrived to her charred in body bags, and her 1 surviving child barely alive.
