{"id":54355,"date":"2025-07-30T06:51:21","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T14:51:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=54355"},"modified":"2025-07-30T06:51:21","modified_gmt":"2025-07-30T14:51:21","slug":"the-man-made-atrocity-famine-in-gaza","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2025\/07\/30\/the-man-made-atrocity-famine-in-gaza\/","title":{"rendered":"The Man-Made Atrocity Famine in Gaza"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Israel\u2019s deliberate policy of starvation in Gaza has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/world-nation\/story\/2025-07-29\/worst-case-scenario-of-famine-is-happening-in-gaza-food-crisis-experts-warn\" rel=\"\">created<\/a>\u00a0the worst-case scenario experts and humanitarian agencies have been warning about for more than a year and a half:<\/p>\n<p><em>The \u201cworst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out in the Gaza Strip,\u201d the leading international authority on food crises said in a new alert Tuesday, predicting \u201cwidespread death\u201d without immediate action.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The famine in Gaza is entirely\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/business\/healthcare-pharmaceuticals\/gaza-facing-man-made-mass-starvation-says-whos-tedros-2025-07-23\/\" rel=\"\">man-made<\/a>. Like other atrocity famines, it is the result of deliberate policy choices. The Israeli government has been deliberately starving the people of Gaza for the better part of two years. As more than 100 aid groups\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/International\/100-aid-groups-warn-mass-starvation-gaza-blaming\/story?id=123989368\" rel=\"\">said<\/a>\u00a0in a joint statement, \u201cthe Israeli government\u2019s siege starves the people of Gaza.\u201d Since the start of the war in October 2023, the Israeli government has been inflicting collective punishment on the civilian population by using starvation as a weapon, devastating Gaza\u2019s civilian infrastructure, and destroying the health care system.<\/p>\n<p>The catastrophe engulfing the people of Gaza was foreseen long ago. Thanks to Washington\u2019s indulgence and the world\u2019s indifference, the most preventable famine in the world has not been prevented.
