The US has <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/second-us-strike-on-venezuela-boat\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">attacked<\/a> at least two Venezuelan boats this month, prompting <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trafficking-fentanyl\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allegations<\/a> of criminality.<\/p>\n<p>The Trump administration has offered no hard evidence \u2013 such as drugs or weapons recovered from the targeted boats \u2013 to support its assertion that the vessels were smuggling narcotics. While the area where the boats were bombed is a notorious drug-running route, it is also frequented by migrants, human traffickers, and people selling subsidized Venezuelan gasoline in nearby Trinidad and Tobago.<\/p>\n<p>Stephen Miller, President Donald Trump\u2019s deputy chief of staff who <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rollingstone.com\/politics\/politics-features\/stephen-miller-donald-trump-immigrants-1234778491\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reportedly<\/a> once pushed for drone strikes on unarmed migrants, <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/stephen-miller-leading-venezuela-boat-bombings\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">played a key role<\/a> in directing the strikes on the boats, according to reporting by <em>The Guardian<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The attacks on the boats came amid the US <a class=\"rm-stats-tracked\" href=\"https:\/\/www.commondreams.org\/news\/trump-warships-venezuela\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">deployment<\/a> of numerous US warships and thousands of sailors and Marines off the coast of Venezuela, a country Trump has repeatedly threatened with regime change in the face of defiant anti-imperialist resistance from Venezuelan President Nicol\u00e1s Maduro.
