{"id":5570,"date":"2009-04-25T10:01:57","date_gmt":"2009-04-25T18:01:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=5570"},"modified":"2009-04-25T10:29:52","modified_gmt":"2009-04-25T18:29:52","slug":"obamas-double-standard-on-atrocities-evil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2009\/04\/25\/obamas-double-standard-on-atrocities-evil\/","title":{"rendered":"Obama&#8217;s Double Standard on Atrocities &amp; Evil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a Holocaust Remembrance Day at the Capitol on Thursday, President Obama<a href=\"http:\/\/www.talkingpointsmemo.com\/news\/2009\/04\/remarks_by_obama_at_holocaust_days_of_remembrance.php\"><strong> called<\/strong><\/a> for &#8220;fighting the silence that is evil&#8217;s greatest co-conspirator.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>On the same day, Obama decided to oppose creation of a truth commission to vigorously investigate and expose U.S. torture crimes.<\/p>\n<p>This is another of those damn paradoxes of which Washington is full of. <\/p>\n<p>Perhaps Obama believes that any atrocity with less than a million victims is merely a technical error.<\/p>\n<p>Condemning a genocide committed by a foreign government cannot redeem Obama if he effectively pardons U.S. government officials guilty of barbaric practices. <\/p>\n<p>Obama could reverse his opposition to a full disclosure.
