A civil society panel assembled in response to Israel\u2019s annihilation and starvation<\/a> of Gaza<\/a> delivered its final statement<\/a> Sunday in Istanbul \u2013 detailing nine categories of crimes committed, warning that genocide<\/a> continues, and calling on humanity to take action to hold the perpetrators legally and morally accountable.<\/p>\n

Chaired by Richard Falk<\/a>, a former United Nations<\/a> special rapporteur on human rights<\/a> in the occupied Palestinian territories and a professor emeritus at Princeton University in New Jersey<\/a>, the Gaza<\/a> Tribunal held four days of public hearings during which international jurists, experts, and witnesses offered evidence and testimonies of what they said are Israel\u2019s continuing crimes against the Palestinian people.<\/p>\n

Israel<\/a> \u201cis perpetrating an ongoing genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza, within \u2013 and enabled by \u2013 a broader settler-colonial apartheid<\/a> regime rooted in the supremacist ideology of Zionism<\/a>,\u201d said Christine Chinkin, a University of Michigan<\/a> law professor who chaired the tribunal\u2019s Jury of Conscience.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe jury, guided by conscience and informed by international law<\/a>, does not speak with the authority of states, but when law is silenced by power, conscience must become the final tribunal,\u201d she continued. \u201cWe believe that genocide must be named and documented and that impunity feeds continuing violence throughout the globe.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cGenocide in Gaza is the concern of all humanity,\u201d Chinkin added. \u201cWhen states are silent civil society can and must speak out.\u201d<\/p>\n
