{"id":57325,"date":"2026-01-25T08:41:58","date_gmt":"2026-01-25T16:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=57325"},"modified":"2026-01-25T08:41:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-25T16:41:58","slug":"donald-trumps-board-of-piece-of-the-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2026\/01\/25\/donald-trumps-board-of-piece-of-the-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump\u2019s Board of Piece (of the Action)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On January 22, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/articles\/2026\/01\/president-trump-ratifies-board-of-peace-in-historic-ceremony-opening-path-to-hope-and-dignity-for-gazans\/\">a White House press release<\/a>, US president Donald Trump \u201cratified\u201d the Charter of the Board of Peace, promising \u201ca secure and prosperous future for Gaza that delivers lasting peace, stability, and opportunity for its people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ve seen a lot of media coverage regarding things like Trump\u2019s $1 billion membership fee demand for countries wanting a seat on the board, which regimes are willing to pony up and which aren\u2019t interested, etc. But a commenter \u2014 pseudonym \u201cSkywalker\u201d \u2014 on a website I work with (Antiwar.com) called my attention to some far more interesting details.<\/p>\n<p>TL;DR: Donald Trump chairs the board, for life or until he doesn\u2019t feel like chairing it anymore, enjoying absolute authority and choosing his own successor.<\/p>\n<p>Longer version, in Q&amp;A form with answers as direct quotes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.middleeasteye.net\/news\/trump-board-of-peace-charter-full-text\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the charter<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Q: Which states are represented on the Board of Peace?<br \/>\nA: \u201cMembership in the Board of Peace is limited to States invited to participate by the Chairman\u201d (who also has the power to remove those states).<\/p>\n<p>Q: How will the board make decisions?<br \/>\nA: \u201cDecisions shall be made by a majority of the Member States present and voting, subject to the approval of the Chairman.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Q: How will subcommittees be chosen and operate?<br \/>\nA: \u201cThe Chairman may establish subcommittees as necessary or appropriate and shall set the mandate, structure, and governance rules for each such subcommittee.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Q: How are disputes concerning the meaning or application of the board\u2019s charter settled?<br \/>\nA: \u201c[T]he Chairman is the final authority regarding the meaning, interpretation, and application of this Charter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Q: Who is the Chairman?<br \/>\nA: \u201cDonald J. Trump shall serve as inaugural Chairman of the Board of Peace \u2026. Replacement of the Chairman may occur only following voluntary resignation or as a result of incapacity, as determined by a unanimous vote of the Executive Board [remember, the Chairman gets a vote, and all actions of the board are subject to his approval], at which time the Chairman\u2019s designated successor shall immediately assume the position \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not difficult to figure out what\u2019s going on here.<\/p>\n<p>The new organization is not a \u201cBoard of Peace,\u201d it\u2019s a \u201cBoard of Piece \u2026 of the Action for Donald Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve already watched Trump knock down billions in new wealth as president, billing taxpayers for use of his own properties and tapping family and friends as proxies for everything from corporate takeovers to insider trading to cryptocurrency scams.<\/p>\n<p>Now he\u2019s setting himself up as all-powerful chairman for life of an organization that will handle \u2014 and hand out contracts disposing of \u2014 untold additional billions in Gaza aid.<\/p>\n<p>Guess who will get those contracts?<\/p>\n<p>Oh, for the good old days of the Biden family\u2019s mere \u201c10% for the Big Guy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>Thomas L.
