Rick Lynch<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps underscoring the old adage that &#8220;to a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail,&#8221; Lieutenant General Rick Lynch, who holds a masters degree in robotics, is pretty sure all his problems in Iraq could be solved with a massive army of battle droids. <\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/grev.jpg\" alt=\"\" title=\"\" width=\"273\" height=\"253\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-6263\" \/>Lt. Gen. Lynch is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wired.com\/dangerroom\/2009\/10\/general-iraqs-robot-lack-killed-122-gis\/\">now claiming that 80 percent of the soldiers who died<\/a> under his command could have been saved if only he had enough killbots. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaldefensemagazine.org\/archive\/2009\/October\/Pages\/FailureToFieldRightKindsofRobotsCostsLives,ArmyCommanderSays.aspx\">There&#8217;s got to be a sense of urgency here,&#8221; Lynch noted, &#8220;I am so tired of going to demonstrations<\/a>.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>Lynch is also hoping to deploy heavily armed robots to places where he suspects IEDs might be planted to &#8220;kill those bastards before they plant the IEDs.&#8221; It has to be noted, however, that US forces killed several farmers in Afghanistan this summer because they <a href=\"http:\/\/news.antiwar.com\/2009\/08\/06\/us-kills-five-afghan-cucumber-farmers-in-air-strike\/\">couldn&#8217;t tell the difference between IEDs and cucumbers<\/a>, and question if the robots are any more observant. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00e2\u20ac\u0153There\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s a resistance saying that armed ground robots are not ready for the battlefield.
