{"id":9026,"date":"2011-01-28T16:40:15","date_gmt":"2011-01-29T00:40:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/?p=9026"},"modified":"2011-01-28T19:37:39","modified_gmt":"2011-01-29T03:37:39","slug":"shame-on-chris-matthews-smearing-the-egyptian-revolution","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.antiwar.com\/blog\/2011\/01\/28\/shame-on-chris-matthews-smearing-the-egyptian-revolution\/","title":{"rendered":"Shame on Chris Matthews: Smearing the Egyptian Revolution"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Neocon Marc Ginsberg, former US ambassador to Morocco, appeared on\u00c2\u00a0MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;Hardball,&#8221;\u00c2\u00a0the Chris Matthews show masquerading as an &#8220;expert&#8221; &#8212; as Matthews called him &#8212; descrying theEgyptian \u00c2\u00a0uprising as a plaything in the hands of the Muslim Brotherhood.<\/p>\n<p>This is not at all surprising:\u00c2\u00a0Ginsberg is the same guy who <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/amb-marc-ginsberg\/al-jazeera-fueling-tunist_b_811865.html\">described<\/a> the Tunisian uprising as\u00c2\u00a0representing Al Jazeera&#8217;s &#8220;penchant for regional anarchy&#8221; &#8212; the people&#8217;s desire for freedom apparently had nothing to do with it.\u00c2\u00a0\u00c2\u00a0Gisberg is a <a href=\"http:\/\/webcache.googleusercontent.com\/search?q=cache:bOe___obxucJ:www.oldelmtree.com\/index.php%3Ftopic%3D489.0%3Bwap2+%22marc+ginsberg%22+pnac&amp;cd=9&amp;hl=en&amp;ct=clnk&amp;gl=us&amp;source=www.google.com\">longtime<\/a> warmonger and\u00c2\u00a0outspoken <a href=\"http:\/\/books.google.com\/books?id=zIrFUBs7G6kC&amp;lpg=PA275&amp;ots=xWcu_435Ab&amp;dq=%22marc%20ginsberg%22%20israel&amp;pg=PA275#v=onepage&amp;q=%22marc%20ginsberg%22%20israel&amp;f=false\">supporter <\/a>of Israel whose views are so far from removed from reality &#8212; never mind &#8220;expertise&#8221; &#8212; that the distance can only be measured in light-years. &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t matter what the people in the streets want,&#8221; Ginsberg intone: &#8220;The Brotherhood is the largest most organized political organization in the country.&#8221; But why doesn&#8217;t it matter what the tens of thousands in the streets want? Are they just pawns?<\/p>\n<p>I suppose the Israel Lobby had to get its two cents in, but the brazenness of this kind of nonsense is astonishing. Matthews just sat there and failed to challenge the &#8220;expert.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The reality is that the Brotherhood is practically invisible in these protests: there are no leaders, no organizations, no party programs &#8212; just the people, outraged, rising up against a tyrant.
