May<\/a>, president of the hawkish <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rightweb.irc-online.org\/profile\/Foundation_for_Defense_of_Democracies\">Foundation for Defense of Democracies<\/a>, lashes out at the UN for considering Palestinian requests for a condemnation of Israeli settlement construction. \u201c[W]hy should Palestinians negotiate if they can get the U.N. to force Israel to make concessions in exchange for nothing?\u201d asks May. The UN, says May, is wasting its time when it should be confronting Iran. \u201cIran\u2019s rulers are executing dissidents daily, developing nuclear weapons, and sending warships through Suez.\u201d He argues that the settlements are really a non-issue, writing, \u201cHamas, Hezbollah, and the theocratic rulers of Iran have been candid: Creation of a Palestinian state is, at best, a secondary goal. Their primary objective is the defeat and destruction of the world\u2019s only Jewish state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.heritage.org\/2011\/02\/24\/the-third-wave-revolution-in-the-middle-east-and-the-administrations-cluelessness\/\">The Heritage Foundation<\/a><\/em>: The <a href=\"http:\/\/rightweb.irc-online.org\/profile\/Heritage_Foundation\">Heritage Foundation<\/a>\u2019s vice president of foreign and defense policy studies, Kim Holmes, blogs that \u201cObama\u2019s \u2018engagement\u2019 strategy toward the \u2018Islamic world\u2019 is irrelevant to the Middle East\u201d and that protesters\u2019 demands for \u201cfreedom and better standards of living\u201d cause the Obama administration to \u201claunch denunciations with dizzying speed when it is a pro-American dictator like Egypt\u2019s Mubarak, but to delay for days in saying a word when it\u2019s an anti-American thug like Libya\u2019s Qadhafi and Iran\u2019s Ahmadinejad.\u201d He concludes, \u201cIf we find Ahmadinejad\u2019s behavior unacceptable, we need to consider options more forceful than talking with \u2018multilateral institutions.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>from LobeLog: News and Views Relevant to U.S.-Iran relations for February 24th, 2011: National Review Online: Clifford D.
