The U.S. Government Has Declared War…

On the Constitution

With our foreign policy of perpetual war comes a domestic regime of unapologetic authoritarianism.

The PATRIOT Act gives the government the power to search your home without telling you, read your e-mails and trace your Internet browsing history, and collect information on the books you read and even your medical history. It also authorizes the government to seize your financial records without going to court, all by issuing a "national security letter."

The Military Commissions Act establishes a presidential dictatorship: with a single wave of his hand, George W. Bush now has the power to lock up anyone, for any reason he deems fit.

The Constitution is dead as a doornail, and it has been murdered in the name of "national security." That's always the excuse – it's a ploy as old as history itself. Will it work this time? Will the American people stand by as their republic is destroyed from within?

Antiwar.com has been in the vanguard of the resistance, publicizing these outrages against liberty and mobilizing Americans against this relentless assault on what is left of our freedoms. But we can't do it without your help. The state never lacks for resources to push its agenda of war and repression. We, on the other hand, must turn to you, our readers and supporters, for the funding we need to continue our mission.

With our liberties under assault as never before, your tax-deductible contribution is the best way you can fight back.*

Sorry for the interruption.

*If you contribute $200 or more, you will get an autographed copy of Justin Raimondo's just-reissued Reclaiming the American Right: The Lost Legacy of the Conservative Movement, the story of how the neocons took over the conservative movement and buried the true history of the anti-interventionist Right. It exposes the radical origins of neoconservatism while harking back to an older tradition of opposition to foreign wars. And if you contribute $500 or more, you will get a personally-inscribed copy of the book (your choice of message).
