Hell, stopping a surge in Afghanistan wil not sove the problem. The problem is we are spending about one trillion dollars each year (largely on military efforts) above and beyond what we take in as a national government. You don't have to be a whiz-kid to compute how many years that can go on before we are totally indebted to those that love to lend us money. The country is on the surest course to become bankrupt, inspite of its mighty armies and mis-placed wealth. Go figure!
