At least 101 Iraqis
were killed or found dead today and 81 more were injured in violent
events that included a car bombing at a funeral in Fallujah. Three American
servicemembers were killed today, while the U.S. military reported that three
GIs were killed on Monday. U.S. troop deaths for May have been averaging almost
four servicemembers per day, making it one of the bloodiest months of the war.
A
One
13th Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Soldier died this morning during
a roadside bombing. An MND-B
soldier was killed in Baghdad during a small arms attack. In Diyala, a
Task
Force Lightning soldier was also killed during a separate small arms attack.
The U.S. military also announced the previously
unreported deaths of three soldiers in Baghdad on Monday.
In Baghdad,
gunmen at a fake checkpoint stopped a minibus and killed
all 11 passengers; a bomb hidden among the bodies then killed
two civilians and wounded six others. In the Iskan district, a suicide
car bomb killed
one Iraqi soldier and injured two at a checkpoint. One
person was killed and five wounded when a suicide
bomber blew up his vest on a minibus in the Shaab district. In al-Hurriyah, U.S.
soldiers firing in response to striking a roadside bomb killed one civilian and
injured a second. One
person was killed and three were wounded during a mortar attack in Abu Atsheer.
Also, 22 bodies
were found in the capital.
A roadside bomb killed
two day laborers and wounded 15 in Sadr City.
The funeral procession
for MP Ibrahim Allawi al-Isawi from the Sunni Iraqi Islamic Party was interrupted
by a car bomb that killed
at least 35 attendees and injured 36 more. Mortars also fell
on a U.S. base.
Near Kirkuk, a roadside bomb targeting a mayoral
motorcade killed
six bodyguards. Two
truck drivers were kidnapped. Also, an oil pipeline was set ablaze;
the fire is expected to burn for weeks.
Six
people were killed when gunmen opened fire on Nahr al-Bustan village.
Three bodies
were found in Baquba.
In Sulaiman Bek, a roadside bomb killed
six policemen and wounded six more.
Six
civilians were wounded during a roadside bombing in Ad Dawr.
In
al-Sharkhat, two
people were killed and a woman was injured during a roadside bombing.
Five
policemen were killed in Samarra when an explosive device blew up near
them.
In Duhkuk province, two Turkish planes violated
Iraqi airspace in the Kurdistan region. Eleven people were arrested trying to
sneak into Turkey.
