Egyptians on Israel Peace Treaty

Several Egyptians shown on various networks have said they reject the treaty with Israel. It’s also been cited in articles I have been reading for days. I just want to make the point that the peace treaty fosters Egyptian collaboration with Israel in its oppression of Palestinians. It means the Egyptian Army cannot even station troops in Sinai, its own territory.

Obviously, this is ridiculous and unacceptable to Egyptians and anyone who believes in national sovereignty and especially universal human rights. To call for the revocation of this unjust treaty is not to call for war. Countries don’t just have peace treaties or war; the default is peace, that’s why, for example, most countries don’t have treaties with most other countries with which they are at peace.

  1. If memory serves, the treaty (1) gives the Sinai back to Egypt, which Israel wanted to keep, (2) put Americans on the line to protect the line between Israel and Egypt thereby guaranteeing peace for both and (3) guarantees $3 billion aid to both Egypt and Israel a piece. Throw away the treaty and you throw away these benefits. Do you really want to go there?

    1. As an American I wouldn't mind "going there". Lets get our troops the hell out of there and put our $3 billion back in our own pockets.

By the way the ONLY REASON Israel ever agreed to give back the Sinai was because of the very good performance of the Egyptian armed forces in the 1973 war. This finally forced the military and political elites in Israel that holding on to it would be more trouble then it was worth.

    2. There was a plane crash in Canada several years ago. A couple hundred of our soldiers were killed in that crash. They were going home for Christmas leave during their duty in the Sinai called for in the Camp david agreement. The biggest problem I have with this disgraceful waste of our soldiers is Israel as usual failed to follow most of the agreement while demanding the benefits as if they were good faith partners in this matter. We lost 250 marines in Lebanon protecting Sharon retreat from his disaster of an invasion of Lebanon. We have lost a lot of our kids to allow this disaster in the middle east to happen.

      1. Thank You for bringing this up. The Sinai Peacekeeping force is largly forgotten about.
        Cant go on like this

    3. Only Israel could benefit from such troop "protection". American soldiers would be dying again for Israel. Throw away the Israel first line of thinking. Peace will only come when Israel is muzzled.

It's a peace treaty! Peace treaties often put limits on what countries can do with their militaries. For example in the 1800's the US agreed to limit the number of warships they had in the Great lakes and more recently the the US cannot put nukes in space.

What do you want, a war?

    1. Very next line:

"To call for the revocation of this unjust treaty is not to call for war."

      1. Besides which, it doesn't matter at all what Jeremy wants. What matters is what Egyptians want. It's not about us, all about us, all the time. Not any more.

  3. .If the treaty guarantees $3 billion to both Egypt and Israel then the US is in default.as to Egypt and in excess as to Israel. Odd how everything always works out that way thanks to conniving so-called US citizens whose only loyalty lies elsewhere. So let's just scrap the whole thing and keep American tax dollars in America

  4. The problem of the 1967 war continues and it cost the USA hundreds of billions of dollars. Sharate was the second prime minister of Israel and his diary talks about the Israel plans as early as the mid 1950 of attacking Egypt before it could get modern weapons. Dyan, the famous Israel general, talked about sending an Israel ship into the port in the red sea. I always found that amazing that 13 years the Israeli government was planning the exact flash point that they claimed was why they had to attack egypt. There is no reason for Egypt to continue this treaty since Israel never keep its agreement except the few ways they wanted and benefited Israel only.

  5. This Foreign Aid has got to stop. NO PEACE- NO AID $ Simple!
We are barrowing money from China for this.
Would you take out a loan to pay for your nieghbors car just because he is friendly to you?

  6. How would a war with Israel be in Egypt's interest? Would the theocrats of the Islamic Brotherhood cement their base by launching a war? How would that affect the average Egyptian, who is concerned about keeping his job, earning enough to put food on the table, pay the rent and save for his children's college education? Would he want to be torn from his family to be drafted and possibly killed in another destructive war?

He need only look across the border into Gaza, where the Hamas rocket attacks provoked "Operation Cast Lead," which left many Gazans dead, homeless, unemployed and dependent on U.N. handouts for sustenance. Did war provide dignity, independence and self-respect for the people of Gaza? The facts are clearly evident that war does not produce either peace, or prosperity! If you always do what you've always done, you will always get what you've always gotten!

    1. Please stop with the Israeli talking points. "Operation Cast Lead" was not provoked by Hamas rocket fire.

The Israeli government formally acknowledges that until Israel broke the agreement on November 4, invading Gaza and killing half a dozen Hamas activists, Hamas did not fire a single rocket. Hamas offered to renew the cease-fire. The Israeli cabinet considered the offer and rejected it, preferring to launch its murderous and destructive Operation Cast Lead on December 27.

      Please get the facts straight.

    2. And why the rockets from Gaza. They were primarily aimed at Sderot, the site of a Pal village razed by the IDF and from which the Pals were "cleansed," most going to Gaza. That is WHY the rockets were fired. As soon as Israel gets out of all "settled" areas and quits the occupation, there is a chance for peace. Without these steps, there will NEVER be peace, and Israel can expect rockets, threats, war and turmoil. Green Line or else.

  7. !This proposal is a Zionist false flag operation. Under the guise of promoting democracy it is a call for a military coup. The main beneficiary, if not the only, of US aid is the military. Threatening them with a withdrawal of their salaries is the game plan. Force them to take over and prevent the people from installing an anti-Zionist regime.

This is a carbon copy of the call Cong. Gary Ackerman made yesterday. He always puts Israelis ahead of Americans.

"By way of deception you shall wage war." It is the Mossad motto, Ackerman's modus operandi and this Israel Firset poster's marching order.

    1. So what you are saying is: if US and EU cut the economical help to Israel then the IDF.., Israel Defense Force would start a Coup de Etta because they don’t get their salaries.., If that’s what you think that might be the case then your thoughts are not far from the “Zionism” .., I think you people are going overboard with this Zionism idea that everything is happening because you think that it might be from a Zionists or there is Zionist agenda behind US and its payments to those whom been killing their own and or other people for years.., in the other hand what would you suggests that we should do…..? Wait for Muslims brotherhood to take over or the Iranian regimes being in charge. You see.., US never helped the Iranian democratic movement against the Shah regime now there is fundamental Islamic regime in Iran.., would you like that to happen in Egypt too….? So where is democracy and how or where it starts. for democracy to flourish democracy needs to help democracy not Mubarak. otherwirse you are talking BS.

      1. To insist the political and economic structures of Israel and Egypt are so alike that they would respond exactly the same to pressure is silly. You are silly. You are a Zionist false flag.

  8. Calling Obama.., at the same time knowing that he is not going to do anything about the situation and uprising of Egyptians people will show that US is not interested in doing anything and all that talk about democracy is nothing but an empty rhetoric…, perhaps you people should read between the line to understand a simple fact.., people in Egypt are in need of all kind of help that they can get.., that is not because of Mubarak or any other politicians who is another puppet to Israel and or US or for that matter Tony Blair ..,yet if it comes from the US and not obeyed by Mubarak it will show that he is the lapdog and that US talk of democracy is just a talk.
