US Commander in Europe: We Need More Troops to Fight The Russians

US Commander of the Europe Command, Gen. Curtis M. Scaparrotti, has called for thousands more US troops to “deter Russian aggression” in Europe. He has even suggested that the US troops should be pulled off of counter-terrorism duty and sent to Europe. Meanwhile, the Pentagon announced a massive shipment of military equipment to Europe, including tanks and other tracked vehicles. Do US military officials really believe that Russia is about to invade western Europe? Are we back in the 1940s? Or is Washington’s military-industrial complex looking for new ways to justify an ever-expanding military budget? Tune in to today’s Ron Paul Liberty Report:

  1. America’s military machine must be crushed for the world to enjoy peace.

  2. As in all wars from time immemorial, the generals are busy fighting the last war.
The next is going to be missiles and bombs, with ground troops merely acting as targets.
There is no way and no reason for “Russia” (or any other adversary) to fight street battles in the cities or open tank battles on the plains of Europe. There is nothing that they want.
Russia has always waited for the enemy to enter her territory and beaten them on her own ground and terms. Only once the enemy is defeated and retreating does the Russian army cross the borders.
Still the nonsense is making the shareholders of the MIC incredibly rich.

  3. To be fair, he’s doing his job, which is to keep his military forces ready for a potential conflict, and if he’s not doing that, he’s falling short.

It’s the job of the *civilian* leadership to put things in perspective, which is why it’s so dangerous putting career militarists in civilian government positions as they’re so used to thinking from the military’s perspective. Putting the military on a pedestal and not asking “but WHY?” is another serious problem, but mostly, it’s the fact that we’re keeping these regiments and brigades stationed overseas where they’re both potentially in harm’s way and also a dangerous temptation for overreaching executives.

    1. His job is to increase his own power and influence, the strategy to accomplish this is to scare us. 20 miles of channel has kept England free from invasion- Thank God we have thousands of miles of ocean someone would have to cross. Garrisoning Europe isn’t necessary or in our interest! We need to keep our noses out of everywhere else- Europe can easily protect themselves, if needed.

  4. New York City, alone, has about 2/3 the GDP of the entire country of Russia. Then you would have to ignore (and they do) our largest NATO allies- Two of whom would overwhelm Russia. In short, Russia isn’t a threat to western nations, let alone us. it’s absurd. Now, $ for the MIC, and disrupting oil supply to raise prices are better explainantions.
