New Pro-US Sunni Militia Group

IraqSlogger reports:

A pro-US Sunni paramilitary force has been announced in a notoriously rough area of Eastern Baghdad, local sources tell IraqSlogger.

In the Sulaikh area, a “Sulaikh Awakening” (Sahwat al-Sulaikh) group has been formed, locals report, which is cooperating with the Iraqi government against Sunni extremist groups in Sulaikh and surrounding areas. Locals in Sulaikh report that members of extremist groups related to al-Qa’ida in Iraq traveled from neighboring Adhamiya to raid Suleikh, kidnapping 10 civilians. This event prompted locals to begin cooperating with the Iraqi security forces, residents report, and information is flowing to the Iraqi government regarding the whereabouts and activities of al-Qa’ida in Iraq-related operatives.

  1. Thanks for alerting me to this great site devoted solely to reporting on Iraq today. We need to leave those people alone, forget about our expensive bases, we had no right to build in the first place, and save money (and also face in my opinion) and do the people of Iraq a tremendous favor.

  2. Just a matter of time until their headless corpses turn up in some ditch. Nobody likes a sell out. I imagine the Saudi funded Wahhabis pay good compensation for eliminating these collaborators.

  3. “Pro-US”? Doubtful. Quotes I saw in a recent piece:

Army officer to new Sunni “ally”: “Do you want to kill me?”

New Sunni “ally”: “Yes, but not right now”.

Sure, they’ll take US money and weapons. But Sunnis almost unanimously support attacks on the detested occupiers, so I’d watch my back if I was an occupation grunt or merc hanging with my new Sunni BFFs.
