Remembering Justin Raimondo

Published two years ago on the sad event of Justin’s death.

“Don’t do what I did when I was your age – a lot of running around. Instead, read and learn as much as you can so you’re prepared to effectively fight for peace and liberty.”

This sounds like the advice Campaign for Liberty Chairman Ron Paul gives young people, but it was advice given to me when I was a young lad of 25 by my friend Justin Raimondo. Justin passed away last week from lung cancer at the age of 67.

Most of you probably know Justin from his column on Antiwar.com, the website he co-founded with longtime friend and collaborator Eric Garris in 1995. But Justin had a long history of supporting the libertarian movement, starting in the late seventies when he worked for The CATO Institute’s Libertarian Review and Students for a Libertarian Society.

Classic Ron Paul: The Real Reason Clinton Should Have Been Impeached

With the Senate impeachment trial dominating headlines this week, it seems appropriate to look back on what Campaign for Liberty Chairman Ron Paul said about the 1998 impeachment of then-President Bill Clinton.

At a press conference the week of the impeachment vote, Dr. Paul explained that his vote to impeach Clinton was because of Clinton waging military actions in the Mid-East. Through 1998, Clinton launched a series of attacks in the Mid-East that (coincidentally I am sure) just happened to coincide with major developments in the impeachment saga. Yet most Republicans refused to speak out against this abuse of presidential power.

You can see Dr. Paul’s remarks here. Note that Dr. Paul warned that Clinton’s unconstitutional war-making could lead to terrorist attacks against the United States, so he was talking about blowback years before 9-11.

URGENT UPDATE: VOTE on Yemen Today, Call Your Rep.

Today, November 14, the U.S. House will consider H.Res. 1142, the “rule” bill allowing for debate on HR 6784, which removes the gray wolf from the Endangered Species Act.

The House Rules Committee inserted a provision declaring that “the War Powers Act does not apply to H.Con.Res. 138,” which directs the president to cease all hostile actions in Yemen. This provision removes the resolution’s “privileged” status, so if the rule passes, House leadership will be able to delay a vote indefinitely.

The Rules Committee is called the “Speaker’s Committee,” so Rules Committee Chairman Pete Sessions would not slip this provision in without the support of House Speaker Paul Ryan and Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy.

Campaign for Liberty members should call their Representatives immediately and tell them to vote no on H.R. 1142.

You can do so by calling the Capitol Switchboard at 202-225-3121, or find the phone number for their specific representative here.
