Lew Rockwell, founder and president of the Ludwig von Mises Institute and proprietor of LewRockwell.com, and Jacob Hornberger, founder and president of the Future of Freedom Foundation, discuss the fraudulent case for war with Iraq, the longstanding policy of regime change there, the horrible sanctions, the deliberate conflation of nukes and mustard gas into “Weapons of Mass Destruction,” the hopefully receding danger of war with Iran and Pakistan due to the collapse of the American economy, McCain and Obama’s plans for “National Service” conscription and the great success of the Restoring the Republic conference.

‘Pro-Islam’ Talking Doll Too Silly Not to Mention

I know this doesn’t really have to do with much of anything we cover, its just way too funny not to mention. Several local Fox affiliates are running a short (slightly over 1 minute long) news broadcast about Fisher Price’s Little Mommy Real Loving Baby Cuddle and Coo dolls. While no one seems to have problems with the cuddling, the report sees some serious problems with the cooing.

Putting aside for a minute that Islam is at least as anti-Satan as Christianity (and the very garbled speech that they’re concluding even said that) what really stands out to me is that although they claim to have a mass marketed doll in the United States proclaiming “Satan is the King!” they’re focusing on its ostensible statements with respect to Islam. Indeed, if you go to the comments section of one of the more widely viewed Youtube versions most of the people seem a lot more worked up about the Islam aspect than the Satan aspect.

I don’t know how this story could possibly be any more ridiculous, unless of course we were somehow able to tie it in with this. That’s probably asking for too much though, right?

McCain Jumps the Gun with “My Fellow Prisoners”

In a speech today, John McCain told the audience: “Across this country, this is the agenda I have set before my fellow prisoners.”

Here is a 13 second YouTube clip from the speech.

I thought McCain had been in politics long enough to know not to notify people that he was nullifying all their rights until after the election.

I’m Excited – About An Ad!

It isn’t very often that I get excited about advertisements – in fact, it’s never happened! – but if you’ll look at the top of the front page of Antiwar.com, you’ll see what I’m talking about. Because, you see, The American Conservative isn’t just another political magazine, and this isn’t just another ad. We’re building a broad-based anti-interventionist movement, here at Antiwar.com – and The American Conservative is a part of it, and an important one. Because you don’t have to be a leftie to be for correcting our crazed foreign policy – and TAC is the proof of it. Every two weeks, they publish some of the best antiwar material being put out, by such authors as Andrew Bacevich, Leon Hadar, Patrick J. Buchanan, – oh, and myself. I’ve been an associate editor of TAC since the beginning, and I’m proud to say that I had a piece in their very first issue.

The current issue will be of interest to my readers. Check out my take on the proposal for a “league of democracies” over at The American Conservative. Also, in the same issue, you might want to look at Anthony Gregory’s great review of my recently republished book, Reclaiming the American Right: The Lost Legacy of the Conservative Movement. The latter is available to subscribers.

You know, you really ought to subscribe: for the first three months, it won’t cost you a thing. That’s right – you can go here and get a free three-month online subscription to TAC.

As an associate editor, I’m proud to be connected to one of the best political magazines around, an invaluable ally of the anti-interventionist cause. Go check it out today!

Summary Executions in Iraq

The Independent’s Robert Fisk has a great article tonight about the summary executions being carried out in Saddam’s old intelligence HQ, now a “high-security detention facility.”

Of particular note is that the government’s “security officials” are so inept that they couldn’t even properly hang a man with a rope. After several failed attempts they just gave up and shot the guy in the head.

Though Iraq has only officially executed 33 people since the reintroduction of the death penalty in 2004, these killings are completely off the record, and the Independent says there have been hundreds of them.

Neocon Sun Setting

Monday will reportedly see the final edition of the neoconservative New York Sun.

The Sun was started in 2002 by Conrad Black and a number of other investors. They took a consistent stand in favor of neocon wars.

At the start of this month, the newspaper said it was desperately seeking cash. It supposedly raised “a lot” of money in the following two weeks, but then came a Wall Street meltdown that appears to have ended any hope for new benefactors.

In a February 6, 2003 editorial, the newspaper called for indicting antiwar protesters for treason.
