Charles Goyette

Some Bad News and a Reason for Hope

[audio:http://dissentradio.com/radio/07_06_11_goyette.mp3]

Antiwar Radio host Charles Goyette discusses the War Party on the radio, the despicable lies of Joe Lieberman, the censored press conference of Vladimir Putin and what he said, the post-9/11 hysteria of the American people, the hope inspired by the presidential candidacy of Dr. Ron Paul, what makes him completely different from the rest of them, the inevitable consequences of American economic policy, and the possibility of war with Iran.

Charles Goyette, recently honored as “Best Phoenix Talk Show Host” by the New Times, is a familiar voice to radio listeners all across Arizona and increasingly to listeners across the country. Thanks to his outspokenness and the clarity of his positions, radio listeners everywhere are finding they can’t get enough of “America’s Most Independent Talk Show Host!”

Goyette grew up in Flagstaff and started in radio at NAU’s campus station. “Don’t tell anybody, but we used to leave a window in the back of the radio station unlocked, then after it signed off the air at night and the building was locked, we slipped in through the window and fired the station back up. I suppose the reason we never got caught was that no one was listening!” Still, it must have been good training. One Phoenix radio columnist recently wrote, “Goyette is a thorough pro who thinks before he speaks – which he does very well.”

“I’m not here for a good, old-fashioned chat,” Goyette says. “I usually have something a little more provocative in mind.” Although perhaps best known for refusing demands that he support President Bush’s elective war in Iraq, Charles also made front page news in the billion dollar Alt-Fuels scandal, broke more headline news in the Cardinals Stadium story, fought Qwest over misuse of customer’s private records, and took on “America’s Toughest Sheriff” over the potty-cams in the women’s jails.

Always original in his point of view (“I’m the son of a philosophy professor! What would you expect?”), Charles positively delights in questioning the conventional wisdom. There is no political correctness, no sacred cow or authority that he won’t challenge – with plenty of fun along the way!

Fearless in defending his principles, Charles has been interviewed by newspapers and magazines, as well as television and radio stations around the world. His articles and transcripts of his speeches have been published in The American Conservative Magazine, Talkers Magazine, newspapers, and popular political websites. An occasional columnist for the Scottsdale Arizona Republic, Charles’ popular “Inner Views” feature appeared regularly in America West Airlines’ in-flight magazine with a monthly circulation of more than a million. He is also a regular contributor to the magazines of Gannett Publishing. Charles has shared his views with national television audiences on CNN, MSNBC, and Fox News, including on The O’Reilly Factor, Lou Dobbs Tonight, and on the popular PBS program “NOW with Bill Moyers. Recently a national television documentary team chose to feature Charles’ radio show for a forthcoming PBS special exploring immigration issues. Charles can also be heard on talk radio nationally, filling in for syndicated talk show hosts such as Ed Schultz and Thom Hartmann, and with podcast programs and interviews on Antiwar.com.

A dynamic and popular public speaker, Charles has addressed conferences, seminar and civic audiences across the country on economic and national policy issues. He breaks out of the news and political arena from time to time to speak and teach classes on issues of human consciousness and spirituality, and on practical techniques for changing life circumstances with thoughts, attitudes and emotions. Charles enjoys skiing, hiking, good company and conversation. In addition to writing about politics and current events, Charles has completed a screenplay on the life of the famous American seer, Edgar Cayce.

Charles is the father of two sons, Michael and Steven.

Gareth Porter, historian and journalist for IPS News, explains the confluence of interests between Osama bin Laden and Dick Cheney, who both want a U.S. war against Iran, the false accusations against that country which would supposedly justify an aggressive war (such as the lie that they are buddies with Osama and that they are supplying the bombs killing Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan), the likelihood that Cheney would use nuclear weapons as 9 out of 10 Republican presidential candidates called for in the third debate in New Hampshire.
