Blood on the Floor: Raimondo versus Fake “Libertarians”

Over at Taki’s Top Drawer, I’m bashing the fake “libertarians” who are snarking at Ron Paul:

A piece over at The Politico on Ron Paul is snarky yet informative, which seems to be the signature style of that site: “Libertarian Paul wins young minds” gives us brief profiles of young Ron Paul enthusiasts, naturally framing the whole thing in terms of isn’t-that-cute-ness. Oh those kids! What’ll they think of next!”

To get the full flavor, go read the whole thing. It gets pretty bloody after that tame opening …

Oh, and here I talk about how Ron Paul is not only rising in the polls, he’s rising in the estimation of even the most hidebound “conventional wisdom” pundit.

  1. I think you need to put the environment of the times into context when pondering this issue.

When this incident took place, a person did not have to beg forgiveness with every breath, cry on Oprah, and receive the forgiveness of Sharpton in order to be redeemed.

No, in times when Men of Honor rule the day, one must simply state the facts and move on….

  2. Hi. I seem to be a datum that is overlooked in the profile of your average Ron Paul supporter. I'm Larry Ward. I'm 60, which is not young by any standard of review. I'm not cute either. Neither am I ignorant or sophomoric. But I am committed with every fiber of my being and every resource available to me, to do what I can to get Ron Paul elected as president of the United State in 2008.

America is not about great leaders but about great people who produce such leaders. Libertarians often make my skin crawl because they are so ready to abandon and repudiate leaders produced by the better angels of the people. Their repudiation of Lincoln is outright and predicated on ignorance and deceit. The gullible are welcome to sign up and contribute. But ask them to defend their repudiation of Lincoln against facts, reason and the testimony of towering intellects of the magnitue of, say, Walt Whitman, Ralph Emerson, H. L. Menken, Dorothy Thompson or Sinclaire Lewis and they're gone like a fart in the wind.

They dropped Nixon like a bad habit. Publicly they'll commend Regan, but on the QT, they let you know that Regan was smoke and mirrors, just a pretty face who got corrupted and worked for the other side. That trash doesn't work of course if you've read speeches like the Gettysburg address or Regan's Berlin Wall speech. But it works on the ignorant and exploits rather than corrects their ignorance. Americans are a great people, only when they look for themselves at first hand evidence. We are somewhat less that great when we blindly accept the doctrines of grand standing, self appointed leaders who have not done their homework.

The very name libertarian should make us suspicious. Are they talking about liberty or about something like liberty- and they'll tell you what they mean by liberty as need arises after they have the blank check of your unquestioning following. Right now, what I guess you'd call "true" Libertarians are enamored by Ron Paul. But it's not clear to me whether their affection is based on principles or on expedience and opportunism. Nor is it clear whether they are prepared to weather any storm that may arise when the titanic demands of leadership, compel President Paul to lead in a dirction that doesn't cut muster with their orthodox views or that provoke too strong a criticism or slander campaign from Fox News types.

I support Ron Paul as a Republican, the great foundations of which party, you may recall, are erected on the broad shoulders of old, honest Abe. Clearly, the Republican Party, like the nation, needs a leader who will lead it back in the direction of its founding principles. Perhaps the RP revolution will move the so-called Libertarians towards a more courageous endorsement of liberty and justice for all, as possessed liberty and justice for any who subscribe to their doctrines without question. The man's character is so strong that he may even be able to accomplish that Herculean feat.

All these efforts to characterize RP supporters as political or intellectual pygmies are part of a broader effort to characterize men and women who think independently as non person. Fox News has been living with the delusion that we don't exist for so long that they are now unable to process the reality of the appearance of the true American type. they simply don't know what to say or do. And what is that type? One John Drinkwater, writing in 1921, defined him well.

"After little more than a century and a half the new country had realized itself sufficiently to form a new nation and then, after Washington, the aristocrat of the old world in constructive revolt against itself came Lincoln, the new master democrat in full creative energy".

I'd stake all I own on the surmise the Mr. Drinkwater, were he alive today, would include Ron Paul in his anatomy of the American type. And the presence of that type in the oval office would constitute a hero for new genreations so they might grow i n his image to become great men and woman and then, America will once again be a great nation- the land of the free and the home of the brave.

  3. Boy, that Brink Lindsey is pathetic.

“Most ominously, Iraq has been engaged for many years in the monomaniacal pursuit of weapons of mass destruction (WMD). It reportedly has significant stockpiles of biological weapons, and its aggressive, large-scale nuclear program is thought to be at most a few years away from success. The fact that Iraq has been willing to endure ongoing sanctions, and thus the loss of hundreds of billions of dollars in oil revenue, rather than dismantle its WMD programs shows the ferocity of its commitment to maximizing its destructive capabilities. In light of the above, I would support military action against Iraq even if 9/11 had never happened and there were no such thing as Al Qaeda.”

Wow, what an idiot. I wonder if people scream “Shame!” at him everywhere he goes.

  4. Sorry for failing to erase the tag on post just made above. Its love, not John Lowell, that is life giving.

    John Lowell

  5. And brother/sister, is the Honorable Ron Paul magnificent in all his legislative and proposal submissions to Congress this year. Bravo. Not only does he campaign brilliantly, he works for the people of America, and the rest of the world, like a cleansing tornado.
