USS Liberty Survivor Talks to Consortium News Radio After Release From Israeli Jail

On Consortium News Radio this week:

A USS Liberty survivor who was arrested by Israel this month trying to break the Gaza blockade joins Episode 2 of Consortium News Radio.

Joe Meadors was a signalman on the USS Liberty surveillance ship on June 8, 1967 when Israel attacked, killing 34 U.S. sailors and injuring 173 more. This month Meadors was arrested by Israeli soldiers onboard a boat taking part in a flotilla to break the Gaza blockade. Meadors tells Consortium News Radio in this episode how he first became sympathetic to the Palestinians while growing up in Saudi Arabia; how he was told by his superiors not to discuss what happened on the Liberty; why he broke his silence 12 years later; who he thought was attacking the Liberty; why the U.S. covered it up; what he believes was Israel’s motive in trying to sink his ship; what it was like in Israeli custody this month and much more.

  1. When is America going to punish Israel for this horrendous attack? Many of us have been waiting for five decades for justice in this war crime. Instead we have seen the Presidencies of Johnson, Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, Obama and even now under Trump cover up the Israeli crime. It is way past time for the American people to reject Israel’s and international Zionism’s stranglehold on American politics and justice. Saying so is not anti-Semitic in any way.

Fact is Israel is not an ally of the U.S. and never has been. It has always been an albatross around America’s neck. Israel could be an ally and asset to the human race, but not as long as it is not a real democracy — and as long as it is a racist, non-pluralistic, apartheid Zionist colony.

Kudos to Joe Meadors and his surviving compatriots. Israel should also be punished for holding him this past month. You were among the bravest back then and you still are.

And Joe, if you are reading this, I was one of the NSA analysts at USF-798 (Istanbul/Karamursel surveillance station) monitoring the attack on you guys at USN-8/AGTR-5 – The USS Liberty – during the Six Day War. As I remember, those were the designations back then. I know full well that you are telling the truth. I have been telling the story of this criminal attack on America by Israel since then and will continue to do so.

You should know that many of us in the NSA system were totally shocked that horrible day. And we were disgusted by the resulting cover-up to protect Dayan, the IDF, and the Israeli government. It was not only the Israelis who are war criminals in this act but our own U.S. leaders in both major political parties.

And still, no one has been brought to justice.

    1. Perry, Thank you for posting this. I share your outrage on this event. And your disqust of the people within the US government that betrayed those that crewed the Liberty. The American people were, once again, also betrayed by those in the government that let this henious action stand.
