In March 1963, American President John Kennedy proclaimed “We’ve got to do something about Brazil.” He said: “I think we ought to take every step that we can, be prepared to do everything that we need to do.” Kennedy believed Brazilian President Goulart was too friendly with anti-American radicals in Latin America. “Operation Brother Sam” was the code name given to Kennedy’s military plan to “prevent Brazil from becoming another China or Cuba.” After Kennedy was assassinated, President Lyndon Johnson instructed his staff to send a naval task force and aircraft to Brazil to support a coup organized by the CIA with Generals in the Brazilian military.

Eisenhower commissioned coups in Iran and Syria. Iran was a success in 1953. Syria is still a work in progress.
JFK is even worse than I thought he was. I knew he had plans to overthrow Castro which almost started a war with Russia. I did not know he was responsible for a coup in Brazil to overthrow Goulart. Many liberals say Putin meddled in the 2016 election to get Trump in office. When Trump was POTUS, he meddled in Brazil’s election to get Jair Bolsonaro in office.
JFK prevented a war with the USSR when he denied air support to the Bay of Pigs invasion, which was planned under Ike by Nixon.
JFK fired Alan Dulles, who was head of the CIA, and called a halt to any current or planned attacks on Cuba
JFK was in constant struggle with NSC hawks who wanted to nuke Cuba and the USSR
There is no doubt Kennedy was hostile to Goulart, but he did not authorize support for the coup which happened 4 months after his death. Supporting the coup was one of a set of contingency plans

Kennedy had some definite anti-imperialst sympathies, and was becoming more doveish, A conspiracy led by Alan Dulles was responsible for JFK’s death, and his failure to launch air strikes at he Bay of Pigs was a fundamental motivation behind the crime.
