On 16 December 2025, I spoke with Afshin Rattansi on his podcast “Going Underground.” We discussed President Trump’s foreign policy performance over the course of 2025. I made clear that I believe there are few successes and many failures. His first year in office has hardly been an auspicious start and there is little reason to think things will change in 2026, which looks like it is going to be another bleak year on the foreign-policy front.
John J. Mearsheimer, PhD, is an American professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago. More recently Mearsheimer has attracted attention for co-authoring and publishing the article The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy, which was subsequently published as a book.
