David Horowitz ‘Declares’ Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week for October 22-26

“This October 22-26, I am declaring Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week,” declared David Horowitz Tuesday in a friendly interview on FrontpageMag.com, one of Horowitz’s many front groups. “I will hold demonstrations and protests, teach-ins and sit-ins on more than 100 college campuses. Our theme will be the Oppression of Women in Islam and the threat posed by the Islamic crusade [????] against the West.”

Horowitz, who, along with Frank Gaffney, James Woolsey, and Rick Santorum has played a truly vanguard role in the “Islamo-Fascism” movement, apparently has few doubts about his impact. “During the week of October 22-26, 2007, the nation will be rocked by the biggest conservative campus protest ever – Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week, a wake-up call for Americans on 200 university and college campuses.” The event will confront the two “Big Lies of the political left:” that “George Bush created the war on terror and that Global Warming is a greater danger to Americans than the terrorist threat.” In fact, according to Horowitz, Islamo-fascism constitutes “the greatest danger Americans have ever confronted.”

Horowitz, president of the David Horowitz Freedom Center (previously the Center for the Study of Popular Culture) editor-in-chief of FrontPageMag.com, and founder of Students for Academic Freedom, is, of course, a former leading New Leftist who has found fame and fortune – he made $352,647 in 2005, according to tax records – on the extreme right and has done particularly well since 9/11 when he got in on the “Islamo-fascist” ground floor.

“Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week,” according to Horowitz will be a “national effort …to rally American students to defend their country” and will feature “memorial services for the victims of Islamic terror both in America and around the globe” (the guide suggests putting up crosses to commemorate victims presumably regardless of their religion); sit-ins (Horowitz suggests the office of the Women’s Studies Department or the campus Women’s Centers “to protest their silence about the oppression of women in Islam”) teach-ins on ‘’The Oppression of Women in Islam;” “a student petition denouncing Islamo-Fascist violence against women, gays, Christians, Jews and non-religious people” (and press releases at the ready if Muslim student groups, campus administrators, or student government officers fail to sign); and prominent speakers, such as the American Enterprise Institute’s (AEI) Ayan Hirsi Ali, columnist Mark Steyn, Frank Gaffney, Daniel Pipes, Rick Santorum, as well as Horowitz himself.

In addition, participants will distribute pamphlets on Islamo-Fascism, including “The Islamic Mein Kampf,” “Why Israel is the Victim,” “Jimmy Carter’s War Against the Jews,” “And What Every American Needs to Know About Jihad.” Films to be shown include “Suicide Killers,” “Obsession” (about which my colleague, Khody Akhavi, wrote earlier this year), or “Islam: What the West Needs to Know.” For the films, Horowitz advises campus organizers to invite a “local radio host or other local figure to introduce the film and possibly moderate a discussion on it afterwards.” Organizers are encouraged to request funding from the student government. If is not forthcoming, according to the Guide, “it will prove the hypocrisy of your university’s claim to be committed to intellectual diversity and academic freedom.” Other possible funders and sponsors include Young Americans Foundation, the Leadership Institute, the campus College Republican club and Hillel,

The program clearly models itself after strategies employed by left-wing radicals in the 1960s and 1970s but is careful to protect the campus rules and local laws that Horowitz’s ideological enemies on the left would blatantly disregard. Organizers of the sit-ins are explicitly warned not to obstruct university operations or violate university rules. As my colleague, Eli Clifton noted, it combines some of the hardware of the 1960s student movement with the software of Horowitz’s hard-right – dare one say it? Islamophobic — ideology.

According to tax records obtained through the Foundation Center, Horowitz has been the beneficiary in recent years of a number of far-right foundations, including the Allegheny ($575,000 since 2001), Carthage ($125,000) and Sarah Scaife Foundations ($800,000) – all three are part of Richard Scaife’s empire and the Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation (nearly $1.3 million). The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Foundation ($475,000) also contributed nearly $500,000 to Horowitz’s enterprises over the same period.

  1. As an American I find this man offensive. “Islamo-Fascism” is a racist term. I declare this site racist, sexist and anti-semetic. This man has taken everything about Islam out of context. If we were to judge Islam on what he says we would be scapegoating many Muslims who live in the U.S. who are law abiding citizens. To attack the Koran is like attacking the Bible. It is just wrong. It is a spiritual book of a religion. You have freedom of speech and press, the argument is “Do you have freedom to be stupid”? And the answer is, “No!” President Jimmy Carter is a former Commander and Chief, to attack him is to attack America. Jimmy Carter never attacked Jewish people. The man that runs this site should be brought up on charges of treason and inciting violence against a minority group in America. The man who runs this site is opposed to the freedom of religion. He spews out of his mouth what America is opposed to. Jesus came and said love thy neighbor. He is saying go and try to attack Muslims. He is a bigot. I say bring this man up on charges of TREASON.

  2. You know this “Islamo fascism Awareness Week” terrifies me. I urge all of you to protest the arrival of fascist like David Horowits and Ann Coulter to your campuses. They are a threat to free speech, education, and human rights. Their anti-Muslim campaign is only trying to convince American youth to prolong our stay in Iraq and to eventually enter Iran. They have created more opportunities for oppression of women they do not care! PLEASE STAND UP AGAINST THESE FASCIST MONSTERS. LET YOUR VOICES BE HEARD. LET THEM KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT LEMMINGS THAT ARE EASILY FOOLED TO FOLLOW A FALSE CAUSE!!!

    1. Don’t let Coulter and Horowitz speak because they’re a threat to free speech.
I think that says it all.

  3. Numbers 31: 17~18
    17. Now kill all the boys [not men]. And kill every woman [non-virgins=age 11 & 11+] who has slept with a man.
    18. Except every girl [below-puberty & virgin girls=age 0~11] who has never slept with a man for yourselves [for you to enjoy].
32~35 The plunder remaining from the spoils that the soldiers took was … 32,000 women who had never slept with a man.

  4. Now, Mr. David Horowitz, answer my questions:
Which book says for oppression on women:
    Quran or Bible?
Before we find fault with other religions, let’s find our faults first. Please, wise up……

  5. wow..

  6. Okay… I don’t normally get involved.

Arguments aside, allow me to make a few pointers to help increase the general IQ and audience of your discussion.

Firstly and foremost, learn how to spell and use grammar. No one likes children typing on big people’s computers.

Secondly, recognize that there are extremists in all religions. All I have to do is turn to CNN to find cases of Christian terrorism, abuse, and suppression. You may say, “But I’m not one of them!” Well, neither is a large majority of Muslims. There are Jewish extremists as well. On the other side, there are also excellent role models in the Jewish, Christian and Islamic Faiths. You are not better than anyone else.

Take the “We’re better than they are” out of the discussion, and start focusing. I completely agree – there are terrorists out there. Now what can we do to stop them?

We could increase religious tolerance across not only sects of one religion, but entire religions, both monotheistic and polytheistic. We could protest…or we could take time to make donations to an organization which provides shelter for abused women in our country or another. We could raise money to purchase books to send to the Middle East to provide women in areas that *are* subjugated, a chance to educate themselves.

Instead of wasting our lives arguing the same, misspelled points, over and over again.

  7. First of all to the idiot who created this nonsense idea. Islam is not a religion of oppression. It is a very simple religion…with some misguided and idiot followers. I am a Muslim women raised in the middle east and now live in America, and I have felt more oppressed in America due to the government, and I have never once felt oppressed by my religion. So before you make your decision on a few stupid radicals like the Taliban or Al Queda (who are looked down upon by almost EVERY Muslim)…talk to a few Muslims in your neighborhood and around the US, and I think you will completely change your opinions on Islam, and its followers.

    1. Here here!

      Much concurrance on that point!

That is a very legit point especially coming from a woman who’s lived in the Middle East before.

On another note, I don’t think it’s the American government that is oppressing Muslims – it may just be some of the ignorant general locale. This is not a target at Americans, but there is a lot of ignorance everywhere and everyone here I’m sure know that. This DOES in fact create undue insecurities for a Muslim in a society.

Look the best way to really learn about a country, or a religion is by experiencing it first hand and opening your mind a bit more. Sitting in the western world, being brought up in a liberal and supposedly free society does blind you, whether you realize it or not, to a certain extent. Books are a brilliant resource, – articles in the news and magazines are not. But nothing beats first-hand experience. If ever you find you can manage a trip to the UAE or Pakistan or Turkey or Indonesia even (It is after all a Muslim country), then please do and experience the lifestyle yourselves rather than relating what you have read here and there, or heard from someone or the other.

  8. It is not Islam that makes women opressed it is the culture of that particular country that uses Islam as an excuse (which is sick). If you look at the countries in Northern Africa that are Islamic they wrongly treat the women. As Iran they are saying they don’t opress the females there, but now they are moving on and letting women be part of the government. As for U.A.E (Dubai), Lebanon, Jordan, just to name a few, these are Islamic countries that are have a sense of western culture. Especially Dubai which is the fastest growing Islamic city in the world. It is not the religion that makes these women opressed its the government and the policies of particular countries. IF you go to Dearborn, MI and ask any Muslim woman why they wear the hijab (head covering) they will tell you because they want to, and they gave up everything sinful to do it. Like nuns for example when they put the veil on they give up everything sinful to wear that head covering. So next time when you think about a muslim women being opressed think about the country they came from.
And yes the husband may be the controling one that makes the women opressed, but I know Christian and Jewish husbands that are controling too. People and governments wrongly use religion as an excuse for anything, yeah that is sad.

  9. this is absolutely disgusting, and one of the most ignorant things I have ever seen in my entire life. This man is a complete and total ignorant idiot. He has no idea what hes talking about, and follows only what he sees on the outside. Read the Quran first you idiot, and understand the religion before you launch pathetic attemps like this.

  10. this event is rideculous and david is too.

9/11 attacks did not kill nearly as much as the iraqi war is now killing what is the number now of iraqi deaths 98,000 and for american troops 3,000 however the 9/11 attacks killed only 2,819 when will american facism racism hatred and attempted anhilation of islam end. 98,000 innocent iraqis lives were taken away when will they be avenged or are mulim deaths not worth as much as american deaths when will their families be compensated.
The US and ISrael are the 2 facist and terrorist states the US trying to anhilate islam and muslims and terrorising its civilians and civillians abroad. and israel which is plaguing and terrorising its palestinian civilians with HOME DEMOLITIONS AND COLLECTIVE PUNISHMENT,ILLEGAL SETTLEMENTS AND BY-PASS ROADS,INHUMANE CHECKPOINTS,REFUGEE CAMPS,F-16 BOMBINGS,WATER THEFT,ASSASSINATIONS,MILITARISM IN ISRAELI SOCIETY,and CIVILIAN DEATHS.
and you say islamo fascists you got to be kidding me if muslims inflicted the same amout of violence that the US inflicts everytime a person dies as a result of these 2 terrorist states then we’ve got a scary thing coming. islam is a peaceful religion. and there is no such thing as muslim extremist there might be muslim ignorants but not islamic extremism cuz that would be extreme goodness. you can never have too much of good that turns into bad; when you dont have an understanding of the good thats when its bad.

  11. Haha this Horowitz character is such a joke. What a moron!! He also tried to blame Muslims for slavery in the United States. Stupid s**t. A lot of those Africans were Muslims themselves when white people brought them over. The ignorance of this man and his stupid followers baffles me.

  12. I see Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week as just one front in the battle against fictional enemies. This is why I am fully in support of Bigfoot Awareness Week, to alert Americans to another mythical beast threatening our nation. Take THAT, you Sasquatch-hugging liberals!

  13. Islam embraces all religions? Garments of fire have been prepared for the unbelievers. Scalding water shall be poured upon their heads, melting their skins and that which is in their bellies. (Koran 22:19-22:23)
Stay away from non-Muslims. They are all liars. [Koran 9:107]
Slay the idolaters wherever you find them, and take them captives and besiege them and lie in wait for them in every ambush. (Koran 9:5)
    And about the Booty issue:
33:50 – “Prophet, We have made lawful to you … the slave girls whom God has given you as booty.”
What if the girl you are lusting after is Muslim and is not a slave. Just say that you got a special dispensation from God granted through the archangel Gabriel and go for it! Let say you want to marry into a powerful family but the only girl available is only 9 years old. That won’t look good to your followers. So you explain to them that God wanted you to have sex with the child of your desires:

“…the Prophet said to her (Aisha), ‘You have been shown to me twice in my dream. I saw you pictured on a piece of silk and someone said (to me). ‘This is your wife.’ When I uncovered the picture, I saw that it was yours. I said, ‘If this is from Allah, it will be done.'”
    (Hadith, Sahih Bukhari 5:58:235)

  14. Has anyone ever thought that maybe your religions are fake… The book of Torah was not exactly original when coming up with the concept of god… Bible and Quran accept the Torah, so basically if Judaism is false, then so is Islam and Christianity. Also, the USA is nothing special and are violent and hypocritical just like many Muslim nations, for all I care they all can burn in their arrogance. I like nice people no matter what their race/religion is. I don’t like assholes within the same context. Stop being dumb, belief is not to know, belief is just a faith. Stop acting like your faith is the true way to life just because you think so because not only will a lot of more intelligent people will disagree with you, you also have little credibility beyond your own mindstate… have a pleasant day…

    1. hi !

juste to say one thing brother ! the Holly Quran doesnt accept the Torah, he comes to correct the Torah and Injil … because people change it and make it as they want. (sorry for my english, i speak better in French :S )

Take care, and just think about the necessity to make a evident ennemi after the ” Horrible Communism ” , it is moore evident to sell their bulshit with their politic of Fear. “The reason why “learning about and fighting against Islamo-Fascism” is intolerant of Islam is due to the fact that the term Horowitz coined ‘Islamo-fascism’ does not even exist. He is trying to group Islam (religion) and fascism (politics) together”

i think, the country have moore evident probleme than that, like a pooverty, racism and the healthy system…

  15. @Lbez: tsk tsk this is not good. Mature people always give intro of their own religon first before attacking on others.

  16. Report from Berkeley CA.

Only one person arrived on Sproul Plaza in support of Horowitz’s project, and after a short, sharp talk with the campus cops, the middle aged white guy, who claimed to be an alumnist, held a three hour+ marathon argument session just inside Sather Gate.

Nobody tried to kick him out, but they certainly argued vociferously but he stayed planted, with a huge sign on a metal collapsible pole stating “Islam Abuses Women” flipside read; Islam = polygomy, etc… Funny, they’ve come to defense of Islamic women again. How nice and what a surprise. No politically radical leftists professors surrounded and hounded the man off campus. The sizable crowd was nearly all students, a few friends from Revolution Books and the socialists, but it was a talkfest, no slugging involved.

Free speech for anti-Islam racism is alive and well on Sproul Plaza in Berkeley 10.22.07

  17. I cannot believe that people have enough time in their lives to waste on this crap. Stop fighting with each other and pointing out differences and faults about each other’s religions. Ya I know you say there is nothing wrong with your religion it’s the true one and you can prove it. There are faults with every religion, accept it. There are also extremists with every religion. The Christians have people that are part of groups like the KKK that say they are doing what they do in the name of God when if fact they have nothing to do with the God of Christianity. In the same way you have Muslim extremists that are a part of groups like the Taliban, who really just use people and do not share the beliefs of most Muslim people.

It seems that so many people on here have such strong opinions about things they don’t really know. Just like how there are different levels of being a Christian or Jew, theirs different levels of being a Muslim (your born into to it and don’t really care, your liberal about it, your strict, or you an extremist, just to name a few). A lot of the oppression of women in those parts of the world is not because of the Muslim religion but because of culture differences. You do not agree with their culture and that’s fine, that is why you do not live there. I have plenty of women Muslim friends that live in North America, go to the Mosque all the time, partake in Ramadan, look for a Muslim man to marry, do not wear a Hijab, and are attending university for engineering with me. For me personally this is proof that the oppression you talk about is cultural and political and not religious.

There are faults with every culture and every religion. Instead of people focusing on the differences and the faults why don’t you focus on how they are the same? There are so many similarities between all religions and cultures if you stop and look. Unless there is genocide occurring, like in the Sudan, why should we try to change other peoples culture just because they don’t agree to ours? Other cultures are not perfect, and neither is ours, but who are we to say that someone else’s beliefs are wrong? Doesn’t that seem so elitist? who made the US world police? I’m not encouraging suppression of women by any means (I’m a women myself and if I was oppressed I couldn’t be an engineer) but why are we spending out tax dollars, energy, time, and peoples lives to try to change someone’s culture and beliefs? Does that make sense?

Look at the poor we have in US, look at the girls who are being raped and abused in North America. If you think that these things don’t happen on a regular basis than you need to do some serious reading and educating. All I’m trying to say is why don’t we take the time, energy, and money to take care of the problems we are having in our own country before we go and preach our way of life to someone else? I mean you wouldn’t give marriage advice to a someone if you yourself are having problems should you?

  18. Terrorists comprise of Muslims: agreed.
Hitler was a Christian: Killed Jews :: All Christians want to kill Jews???

Thats not true. There are Christians who respect diversity and are “moderate”. Not all Muslims are terrorists.

All i want to say is that, please, please, don’t insult a religion for the mistakes of a small group of people that belong to it. You have no idea how difficult its making the life of others who want peace, love and some respect.

What happened on 911 was wrong. People responsible for it deserve punishment… but in my opinion, their religion should not be stereotyped.

  19. You know, all this reminds me of a verse from Surah Buruj: And they (makers of the pit (of fire ie Hell)) ill-treated them (the Believers)for no other reason than that they believed in Allah, Exalted in Power, Worthy of all Praise!

Bc when it all comes down to it, that’s why they hate us…but let’s not forget the rest of the Surah:
Those who persecute (or draw into temptation) the Believers, men and women, and do not turn in repentance, will have the Penalty of Hell: They will have the Penalty of the Burning Fire.
For those who believe and do righteous deeds, will be Gardens; beneath which rivers flow: That is the great Salvation, (the fulfillment of all desires)

  20. Pakistan, one of the biggest Islamic nations has been ruled by Benazir bhutto (a woman!!!) for quite sometime. as far as i know the USA has not made this step yet.

  21. “Facism will come to America , but not under that name.
It will be called something else, perhaps Anti-facism.”
    – Huey Long

  22. This is rather good i would say. Mr Horrorwitz has given Muslims the opportunity to clear misconceptions on Islam. Thank you sir !

  23. Wow! Reading all the comments here justify the whole purpose of Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week. Keep up the good work.

  24. I think the biggest thread to America is Zionism and NOT radical Islam. It is the brual treatment of Muslims in Palestine by the Zionists that have led to the creation of radical Islam. The Zionists in America are putting the interst of Isreal ahead of that of America. As a result, they are destroying America by getting it involved in all these uncessecary wars for the security of Isreal. it is true that America has been the target by radical Muslim terrorists, but the question that should be asked is why is that? And the answer is because the Bush administration has been supporting unconditionally of the Zionists in Isreal whether Israel is the Aggressor or not. The IDF has been bullying all its neighbors (Syria most recently), and yet the Bush administation has been fully supportive of it. It is this kind of naked conspiracy that drives Muslims to become radical! Mulsims DO NOT hate America and Americans. They do not like the American’s policy towards the Meadle East. That’s the realy reason and NOT the former.

  25. You are all missing the point. David Horowitz is not attacking the muslim religion or people who believe in Islam. He is specifically targeting *Islamo-Fascists* which is a twisted political idealogy. That is why it is called Islamo-Fascism awareness and not Islam awareness. I mean you people need to read more closely. He is not saying anything bad about muslims in general. It is no different than someone starting a KKK Awareness week. Obviously all white people are not KKK. You all need to pay more attention. I mean 90% of the posts here are asserting that Horowitz is Islamophobic but that is not the case any more than saying people who hate the KKK are phobic of all whites.

  26. A man from a radical group was running a jihad training camp here where I live and I have done interviews of radical Muslims in my town and they admittedly want to overthrow the American system of government and replace it with Shariah law. Why don't you just ask them? Go out into your community, ask questions, make "friends" with radical Muslims. They make very little effort to hide it…

  27. What we really need is judeofascism and/or ziofascism awareness week. This could and should happen in a free country.

Thank you for not assaulting my eyes with Horowitz's bloated solicitous face, btw.

"Horowitz or any of the other Neocons or their dim witted dumb dumb followers actually create a volunteer brigade (as in unpaid with no benefits) like the Lefties of old and march off to fight their particular ideological dragons? Give me a break. No way. The fact of the matter is that the Neocons don’t believe their own lies. They are not true believers in their “cause”- not really."

"If you had noticed the fat paychecks Horowitz gets, that pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? It's all about the money. "

Thanks above commentors, this is why I don't argue with the neo cons or the hard left anymore. I finally realized that they have no integrity and their lies and propaganda are deliberate. They know what they're doing.
