John Mearsheimer & Ray McGovern on Putin’s Invasion of Ukraine

From The Committee for the Republic:

To a hammer, everything looks like a nail. To an empire, everything looks like a crisis to justify a multi-trillion-dollar military-industrial-security complex as dictatress of the world. The crisis du jour for the American empire is Russia‘s aggression against Ukraine. The political establishment and the mainstream media assign responsibility to President Putin’s megalomaniac ambition to recreate the Soviet empire. The Committee for the Republic welcomes Ray McGovern and John Mearsheimer as a breath of fresh air. They shoulder the United States with a fair share of the blame: the never-ending expansion of NATO cheek by jowl to Russian borders provoked the invasion. Russia fears nuclear weapons on its borders as more menacing than the Cuban Missile Crisis was to the United States. Ray and John offer some thoughts regarding how to bury the hatchet and move forward.

John Mearsheimer returns for the third time as a salon speaker. We hosted John for his trenchant analysis of the abject failure our quest for global dominance and for his courageous book with Steve Walt on the liability of American support for Israel. John is the R. Wendell Harrison Distinguished Service Professor of Political Science at the University of Chicago, where he has taught since 1982. He graduated from West Point (1970), has a PhD in political science from Cornell University (1981), and has written extensively about security issues and international politics. In 2003, he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and in 2020, he won the James Madison Award, given by the American Political Science Association to “an American political scientist who has made a distinguished scholarly contribution to political science.” His principal work on Ukraine is “Why the Ukraine Crisis Is the West’s Fault: The Liberal Delusions That Provoked Putin,” appearing in September-October Foreign Affairs 2014. The video of his talk has been viewed more than 14 million times.

Ray McGovern is a long-time Russian specialist. After serving as an Army combat intelligence officer in the early 60s, Ray joined the CIA’s analyst ranks. His first portfolio focused on the Sino-Soviet conflict, which was deftly exploited by Nixon/Kissinger (with more than just interpreter assistance from our own Chas Freeman). As chief of the Soviet Foreign Policy Branch, Ray’s analytical team supported the SALT negotiations and he was in Moscow for the signing of the ABM Treaty, cornerstone of strategic stability for the next three decades. Ray correctly predicted Brezhnev’s invasion of Czechoslovakia but incorrectly predicted Putin would not invade Ukraine. Ray thinks the new Russia-China entente helps explain Putin’s gamble. 1. March 1, 2022 Ukraine’s “Neo-Nazi Summer Camp”. Military Training for Young Children Recruitment of Ukraine’s “Child Soldiers” Financed by US “Nonlethal” Military Aid?

This article was written more than 6 years ago, documenting the existence of a Neo-Nazi agenda in Ukraine which both our governments and the media categorically deny.

    1. That might make Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert move to Ukraine. They could join Ukraine’s military or hide with Zelensky.

      1. Somebody has already had a head start. Bipartisanship is the real evil.

July 22, 2019 As vice president, Biden said Ukraine should increase gas production. Then his son got a job with a Ukrainian gas company

KIEV, Ukraine — As Joe Biden announced in April that he was seeking the presidency, his son Hunter quietly left his position here with Ukraine’s largest private gas company after serving for five years.

  2. No gamble ace.
A month ago Putin asked that NATO nukes be removed from Europe.
    To see how NATO responded.
The industrialists in the Ukrain has access to Nuclear waste: Plutonium.
    The Ukraine was weaponizing it.
We were promised a big 10X disaster at the nuke plant. At a offline nuke plant. Likely moving some rods of rads.

Is NATO going to take a position to Defend this threat or condemn it like they condemn Iran with lies of nuclear proliferation?
    In for a penny?
Russia secured the plants that were heavily guarded by Ukrainian troops.
What there can produce a 10X nuclear contamination? Huh?
A: Nuclear weapons and Plutonium. Love u longtime! That actor presideht is a lousy liar, There is no assasination for him, he deserves an international trial and execution for asking NATO to intervene.

    1. This read reveals what very few people know and now you do Dua-Kheti.

January 26, 2022 What is NATO? Military alliance in spotlight as Russia tries to forbid Ukraine membership

NATO was established in 1949 as a defense against the Soviet Union. Its core principal is mutual defense, enshrined in Article 5 of its founding treaty. There are 30 NATO member. Russia is trying to keep Ukraine from joining them. The threat of a Russian invasion of Ukraine prompted NATO forces to mobilize across Europe, evoking for many the military alliance’s first reasons for being.

      1. Okay.
        Ukraine + Plutonium

They wanted to Weaponize Plutonium a Decade ago ace.
They weaponized and are nuclear threat to Russia and NATO and the stability of the entire peaceful world.

        1. They have had nukes since the early 1980’s. This is not new news and NATO is not peaceful.

  3. This is worth a double watch, I’ve been back to crib quotes. Jack Matlock’s commentary was a great bonus. Much thanks to all.
