Charley Reese, RIP

Our longtime friend and columnist Charley Reese has died at the age of 76.

Charley’s columns were a regular feature in the early days of Antiwar.com.

Charley was a journalist for over 50 years, reporting on everything from sports to politics. From 1969—71, he worked as a campaign staffer for gubernatorial, senatorial and congressional races in several states. He was an editor, assistant to the publisher, and columnist for the Orlando Sentinel from 1971 until they parted ways in 2001. His columns continued under King Features Syndicate. They became less frequent ten years ago and he finally stopped writing in 2008, due to his poor health.

He never shied away from controversial topics and always took the hard-core stance. He was a consistent opponent of US interventionism and proponent of individual liberty. He was a strong anti-racist and proponent of gay rights.

Charley is remembered by our readers. I have continued to get regular emails asking for his contact information and asking when his columns will return. Alas, they will not. We will all miss him.

  1. VERY sad news. When I discovered antiwar.com in 2003, Charley was one of my favorite columnists. I remember when he signed off on his final column here and thought what a loss it would be. I always hoped he would find time to write again.

Rest well Charley & THANK YOU.

  2. Charley Reese's columns were a true pleasure to read. In the early 90's I subscribed to the Conservative Chronicle and his articles always had a ring of truly independent mind that stood out among the other columnists. He even sounded libertarian at times. When he officially stopped writing in 2008 I had hoped he would find the strength and time to start writing again. A national treasure has been lost today.

    RIP Charley Reese.

  3. A genuine loss. His kind are too few. Irascible, gutty and fearless; Charley never equivocated.

RIP Charley, you leave us all better off for having read you.

  4. Mr. Reese was a good man. Better than most of us. The article he wrote in 2002 about Muslims being good people and Americans a bunch of zealous nut jobs was priceless. Decades ahead of his time. The future is on his side

  6. I used to read Charley Reese in a small paper called the Suncoast News in Pasco county in Florida. He was a great writer and I always looked forward to his next column. His stand up attitude against the oppressers will be missed. Thanks Charley!

  7. Charley Reese was outspoken in defense of Palestinian human rights before it became popular. He was also one heck of a good writer and had a keen wit. He seldom disappointed. RIP Charley.

  8. Charley was a brave and free American. He knew the right and wrongs of the American foreign policy.
We missed him. May God bless his soul.

Jenis kendaraan ini adalah mobil Colt, tak ada ruang berdiri, jadi posisi duduk mesti diakali: memangku satu kaki di paha dan menciutkan bokong. 12. I was later promoted and moved into the office as their service manager and learned their methods and systems at running a successful plumbing service department. I enjoyed my position there, interfacing with both their customers and the field employees, but I also realized that I still had the desire to work with the tools.dofollow blog comments

  13. This is gonna sound super LA, but I really need to eat green leafy vegetables and get a fair amount of exercise. I get really restless sitting still for too long so I need to get outside and go running, hiking or swimming. Other than that I love traveling anywhere any time. New places provide so much inspiration.blog comments Availble in here
